Instead of showing a simplified version of the site during the outage, Facebook automatically logs users out, displaying an error message stating that their login has expired. This issue is also affecting Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, with even Meta Quest headsets being signed out, impacting functions like Horizon Worlds.

The disruption is widespread, with over 300,000 reports on Down Detector and numerous reports on Twitter. Andy Stone, head of comms at Meta, has acknowledged the outage on Twitter and states that they are working to resolve the issue. We will provide updates as the situation develops.
